I never by first generation hardware. With any new hardware device it's usually best to wait until the 2nd or 3rd generation to make sure they get all the bugs worked out.
I'd recommend waiting for Book 2.0 to come out next year. It'll probably cost as much as Book 1.0, but will undoubtedly have twice the storage capacity.
